ABOUT
VARIOUS SMALL FIRES (VSF) is a gallery in Los Angeles operated by ESTHER KIM VARET.
It opened its doors to the public in January 2012.
We are located on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, the main commercial street of Venice Beach. Venice is the home of Los Angeles’ original avant-garde of the 60s and 70s. In homage to this legacy, VARIOUS SMALL FIRES borrows its name from local artist Ed Ruscha's conceptual book, "Various Small Fires and Milk," self-published in 1964.

VSF MURAL COMMISSION
For its inaugural 2012 commission, the Mural Project presents a site-specific work by Los Angeles-based artist ALEX ISRAEL. Israel's mural references Marcel Duchamp's Tu M' (1918) through Venice Beach iconography, presenting an unbranded advertisement for the Los Angeles beach lifestyle.
The Mural Project is a public art commission curated and funded by VSF. Commissions are hand-painted by Hollywood sign painters on the 100' wide frontage of the gallery's building on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, perhaps the most well-known and heavily trafficked shopping streets for emerging and independent culture in Los Angeles.
